About this event
The Times Square Alliance and Countdown Entertainment co-host the official New York City New Year's Eve countdown with the iconic Waterford crystal ball drop. The event itself does not include city-wide fireworks but does include confetti and pyrotechnic effects on the Times Square stages.
Viewing tips
- Spectator pens form between 42nd and 47th streets — gates open early afternoon.
- After 3pm bags are screened; after 5pm pens lock and re-entry is impossible.
- Liberty Lounge ticketed venues offer indoor warm-up with view of the ball.
Transit and parking
- MTA subway 1, 2, 3, 7, N, Q, R, S, W lines exit at Times Square - 42nd Street.
- Eighth Avenue subway lines A, C, E also exit near Port Authority.
- All Times Square garages close to incoming traffic from 4pm December 31.
- Best transit is from Midtown East via subway.
Safety notes
- NYPD restricts umbrellas, large bags, and folding chairs after 3pm.
- No restroom access inside pens — restaurants east of Sixth Avenue stay open.
